Civil Service Title- IT Project Specialist
Under the direction of Bridge management, the selected candidate will serve as a Bridge Engineer with Drone Operations responsibilities, supporting the agency’s inspection, assessment, and documentation of bridge structures. The candidate will utilize Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) technology to perform high-resolution inspections, collect structural condition data, and integrate drone-acquired imagery into engineering evaluations. The candidate will be responsible for planning and executing UAV missions, supporting bridge assessments, preparing reports using drone-generated visuals, and ensuring compliance with all applicable FAA regulations and safety procedures. Duties include using photogrammetry and LiDAR data to supplement traditional inspections, creating 3D models for structural analysis, collaborating with internal teams, and contributing to innovation in UAV-assisted bridge workflows.
Preferred Skills
FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate for commercial UAV operations (or willingness to obtain). Experience planning and executing drone flights, including pre-flight safety checks, airspace reviews, and post-mission data handling. Proficiency operating UAVs equipped with high-resolution imaging, thermal cameras, or LiDAR sensors. Familiarity with 3D modeling, point cloud generation, and drone mapping software. Ability to analyze drone-captured imagery to identify structural deficiencies such as cracks, spalling, misalignment, or corrosion. Strong knowledge of AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Excel/Word, and 3D modeling platforms. Ability to prepare reports and presentations integrating drone data with engineering findings. Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to explain technical information to diverse audiences. Demonstrated commitment to safety, regulatory compliance, and innovation in engineering practices.
Preference will be given to candidate who possess a driver's license valid in the state of New York State. This license must be maintained throughout duration of employment in this position.

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or
2. An associate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and six years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or
3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and eight years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or
4. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above.
