Civil Service Title- Community Coordinator

The Community Affairs Program Manager for the Division of Bridges will oversee and coordinate community engagement initiatives related to bridge projects. This role involves working closely with residents, community groups, government officials, and other stakeholders to gather feedback, address concerns, and ensure that bridge projects meet the needs of the community. The Community Affairs Program Manager may be involved in organizing public meetings, conducting surveys, as well as providing information to the public about current and upcoming bridge projects. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills are essential for this role, and a commitment to fostering positive relationships within the community.

Preferred Skills
-Two years of public service is strongly preferred, e.g., case management, community organizing, advocacy campaign, or nonprofit work experience, or its equivalent.
-Prior community engagement experience and the ability to manage teams effectively is preferred.
-Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage tasks on simultaneous projects, prioritize, meet deadlines, and maintain consistent attention to detail.
-Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Teams, Forms Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
-Ability to effectively manage fast-paced and highly stressful environments, build constituent relationships, and provide exceptional customer service.
-Excellent written and public speaking abilities
-Ability to learn and adapt software for office needs.
-Bilingual
-Conflict resolution skills
-Valid NYS driver's license

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
