The Fire Department, City of New York (FDNY), seeks a part-time Attorney in the Bureau of Legal Affairs. Reporting to supervisors within the Bureau of Investigations and Trials and Office of Professional Development, depending on the project, the successful candidate will:
Conduct internal step disciplinary proceedings for the Bureau of Investigations and Trials (BITs) and render written decisions in a timely manner. Conduct management training for employees recently promoted to officer positions focusing on best practices including conducting performance evaluations and resolving conflict.Assist in the development, administration, and delivery of professional development training to employees including modules covering effective communications, conflict resolution, public speaking and effective interviewing. Conduct such additional training as requested by FDNY to enhance employee development and work performance, and such additional projects supporting legal work carried out by the Bureau of Legal Affairs.

1. Admission to the New York State Bar; and
2. One year of satisfactory, United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar.
Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.
NYS-licensed attorney with experience working for New York City government agencies. Excellent legal judgement, research and writing skills. Knowledge of contractual disciplinary and hearing process. Experience developing and delivering engaging and interactive training to an organizations' employees in the described competencies. Proficiency in Word and Excel. Prior completion of professional development and conflicts resolution course work (certification a plus).
