JOB DESCRIPTION:

The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Creative Services Section Is responsible for the effective and timely production of videos, training products, graphic art, infographics, animations, presentations, publications, and reports. Additionally, it supports all executive-level staff in preparing key communications that facilitate the department's mission of serving New York City' s communities through various awareness initiatives, public service announcements, crime prevention messages, body-worn camera video releases, recruitment campaigns, and public safety efforts. Archiving the departments videos and audio recordings are critical functions to properly organize, store, and preserve content.

Under the guidance of the Executive Director of Creative Services and the Principal Administrative Associate with broad latitude for the exercise of initiative and judgment, the candidate will assist in editing scripts, copywriting, proofreading and production support.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualification Requirements
1. A master's degree in journalism or public relations from an accredited college; or

2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in public relations, journalism or advertising; or

3. An associate degree or completion of 60 credits from an accredited college and two years of full-time satisfactory experience in public relations, journalism or advertising; or

4. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2" or "3" above. However, all candidates must have at least 60 credits from an accredited college.

For Assignment Level II
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements described above for Assignment Level I, at least one additional year of the full-time experience in public relations, journalism, or advertising.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
