The Identification Unit is a sub-unit of the Centra Records Section and operates on a 24-hour, 7 days a week schedule. It serves as the repository of New York City fingerprints, palm prints. and history information. The daily operations of the unit include processing arrest fingerprints. and non-criminal history checks for various law enforcement agencies. The unit operates in an exceptional work environment with a professional corporate like setting.
The Identification Unit is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Associate Fingerprint Techician, Level II who will under general supervision, with some latitude for independence will perform technical work of moderate difficulty and responsibility in fingerprint identification, chiefly in accordance with the Henry System. In addition to the Associate Level I duties, will perform more exacting work in the classifying, searching, comparing and filing of fingerprints, including those of persons arrested or convicted of criminal offenses. May be tasked with preparing statements for court, certifying fingerprints in question are identical/different; may testify in court regarding fingerprint comparison. Will supervise, train, schedule, and evaluate subordinates.

Certified in the Science of Fingerprint Course.
1. A four year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and one year of full-time experience in fingerprint identification work.
SPECIAL NOTE:
For assignment to Assignment Level III or IV, candidates must have, in addition to the qualification requirements above, one year of full-time experience in latent print identification work.
Proficiency in basic computer applications, such as Microsoft Word, the ability to adapt and work in a fast pace environment.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
