The Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) is the largest Fire Department in the United States and universally is recognized as the world's busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. The Department's main goal is to provide fire protection, emergency medical care, and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors in the five boroughs. FDNY members are sworn to serve and protect life and property and the Department works to continually educate the public in fire, life safety and disaster preparedness, along with enforcing public safety codes. Since its inception in 1865, FDNY has helped lead efforts to make New York the safest big city in the nation. This accomplishment requires a steadfast and daily commitment to maintaining the Department's core values.

The Fire Department, City of New York (FDNY), seeks a full-time Associate Commissioner for Support Services. Reporting directly to the Deputy Commissioner for Management and Budget, the successful candidate will oversee major support bureaus and units within the Department, including Fleet Operations, Facilities Management, Logistics/the Bureau of Technical Services, General Administrative Services/Support Services, OSHA, and the Quartermaster. In addition, the Associate Commissioner will establish goals and policies needed to achieve the broader support services objectives for the Fire Department.

This position will:
Oversee the activities of Fleet Operations including acquisition of vehicles, replacement repairs/maintenance and accident reports of vehicles. Assist with developing and implementing procedures that involve transportation and driving issues. As well as enforce compliance with mandated City, State, and Federal regulations regarding environmental mandates and driver/vehicle assessment.

Oversee the maintenance and reconstruction needs for all of FDNY's leased and City owned locations. Ensure properties are well maintained and programmatic space needs are met at each site to reduce/eliminate the risk of facing issues of noncompliance with OSHA . Oversee the overall management of properties and collaborate on the purchase of furniture, the relinquishment of furniture and specialized equipment for all new and renovated locations. Oversee the Department's facility capital construction and component rehabilitation program.

Oversee Logistics, also known as the Bureau of Technical Services, which includes the Fire Tools and Equipment Unit, the Medical Equipment Unit, and the Medical Supply Unit. Work with bureau staff to manage procurement and distribution of all fire and medical equipment. Maintain, repair, and supply tools and equipment to Fire and EMS field units.

Oversee General Administrative Services/Support Services, including Quartermaster.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
