JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Forensic Investigations Unit’s mission is to support criminal investigations by collecting and analyzing forensic evidence in such a manner to ensure the integrity, quality, accuracy and timeliness of the scientific findings, opinions, interpretations and/ or conclusions.

The Forensic Investigations Unit is seeking a Managerial Criminalist, M-II

The Managerial Criminalist will ensure the procedures and protocols of the Investigative Genetic Genealogy Squad adhere to the "DOJ Interim Policy on Forensic Genetic Genealogical DNA Analysis and Searching." The Managerial Criminalist will assist the Commanding Officer, FIU, in developing plans and budgets to address training needs and the professional development needs of current and new personnel. The Managerial Criminalist will ensure collaboration and coordination with case investigators, OCME, District Attorney's Offices (DAOs), and Investigative genetic genealogy companies to identify and/ or recommend potential cases. The Managerial Criminalist will have final approval of all IGGS cases submitted for genetic genealogy. The Managerial Criminalist will be the final arbiter between the IGGS and the OCME IGGS coordinator. The Managerial Criminalist will collaborate with DAO Executives to resolve issues and ensure their needs are being met. The Managerial Criminalist will address all technical concerns that arise with the investigative genetic genealogy companies.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, with specialization in criminalistics, forensic science, chemistry, biology, physics, molecular genetics, genetics, biochemistry, molecular biology, entomology, anthropology, ecology or a closely related scientific or engineering field.


Preferred Skills

The Forensic Genealogist must be data-driven, proactive, and an excellent verbal and written communicator with an ability to explain complex genealogical concepts to non-experts. Certificate of completion from one of the following (or equivalent): Boston University Genealogical Studies, Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburg, Salt Lake Institute of Genealogy, New Haven Forensic Genetic Genealogy
