The Economic Development Division of the NYC Law Department is seeking an attorney with transactional experience to work on highly visible and complex real estate development and other public sector transactions. Division attorneys represent the City in structuring, negotiating and drafting a wide range of real estate and business transactions relating to projects such as the redevelopment of the Kingsbridge Armory, the reshaping of the City’s waterfront (e.g., Brooklyn Bridge Park, the South Street Seaport, South Brooklyn Marine Terminal and Bush Terminal), infrastructure projects such as the leasing of the City’s airports, the High Line and matters involving MTA and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, and mixed-use developments to advance affordable housing such as Bronx Point. Division attorneys also participate in planning and shaping of neighborhoods through large scale projects such Willets Point, SPARC Kips Bay and Penn Station redevelopments.

The successful candidate should be admitted to the NYS Bar and have at least 5 years of transactional experience. The candidate’s transactional experience should include negotiating and drafting development ground leases, understanding of land use and real estate financing (such as mezzanine lending and tax credit financing), ability to work independently and advise high level decision makers; knowledge of corporate governance and condominium law is a plus.
