The Assistant Commissioner, OEEO will serve as an executive in the office of the Police Commissioner and will manage a staff responsible for conducting internal EEO investigations and preparing advisory memos and investigative reports for complaint / issue resolution; process reasonable accommodation requests and provide guidance on the agency's policy regarding reasonable accommodations to employees, supervisors, and other management officials; perform EEO legal work and research of fact and questions of law; and develop and conduct EEO-related remediation training for all Agency staff.
Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Ensure effective fulfillment of the Agency’s EEO obligations as provided by the City Charter and other Federal, State and Local employment laws.
- Serve as the Department’s EEO Officer and Disability Service Facilitator (DSF) / ADA Disability Rights Coordinator to comply with and carry out the Department’s responsibilities under the ADA and other Federal, State and local laws and regulations concerning accessibility for persons with disabilities and resolve grievances filed by members of the public.
- Advise executive, managerial, and supervisory staff on EEO matters and meet with them regularly to ensure that best practices are followed in connection with all employment decisions,
including selection, transfers, and promotions.
- Manage staff responsible for the compilation of statistical data on EEO matters and all required reports.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
In compliance with federal Law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire.

Admission to the New York State Bar; and four years of recent full-time responsible, relevant, satisfactory legal experience subsequent to admission to any bar, eighteen months of which must have been in the supervision of other attorneys, in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity, or performing highly complex and significant legal work.
Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.
The successful candidate should have at least five experience supervising and / or conducting investigative interviews and preparing investigative reports at least five years’ experience with EEO analysis of issues related to workplace discrimination, or related work experience knowledge of citywide personnel policies and procedures the ability to work and communicate effectively with employees at all levels throughout the agency the ability to manage a workload within tight time constraints and complete tasks on time and a demonstrated commitment to creating a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace.
