The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Division of Infrastructure, is currently seeking an Assistant Commissioner to join the Design Unit and oversee Section 3.
Under the direction of the Associate Commissioner, the successful candidate will be responsible to oversee an annual capital program comprising of at least 120 projects valued at $2 billion. The Assistant Commissioner will manage professional engineering staff and consultants responsible for the preparation of plans, estimates, specifications, and contract bid documents for sewer, water main, storm water management, roadway, sidewalk, plaza; and coastal/waterfront resiliency projects. The selected candidate will ensure that projects remain on schedule, costs are controlled, staff performance evaluations are completed, and act as the liaison between the division’s senior management and the Associate Commissioner.
The final candidate will also represent the unit at coordination meetings; must have the ability to manage and train staff to carry out all areas of Design and Construction functions; and must understand Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Transit Administration (FTA), and New York State Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) regulations, Federal, and City standards and procedures.
Lastly, the candidate will supervise 2-3 Directors in charge of various Design sections/teams/groups and provide technical direction and guidance to design and construction staff in the resolution of all engineering design issues; and will have extensive interaction with other city and state agencies, community boards, elected officials, and will represent the Associate Commissioner as needed.

ADMINISTRATIVE ENGINEER - 10015
1. A valid New York State License as a Professional Engineer and six (6) years of full-time satisfactory experience in chemical engineering, civil engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, mechanical engineering, or plan examining work, at least two (2) years of which must have been in an executive, managerial, or administrative capacity.
Please note the following preferred skills for this position: 1. Must have at least 4 - 6 years of strong supervisory experience, administrative, and management skill, especially in the design area. 2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills 3. Knowledge and use of computers, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, and AutoCAD 4. Design experience related to infrastructure work (i.e., sewer, water mains, roadways). 5. Knowledge of current and up-to-date engineering methods and standards is preferred. 6. Familiarity with construction specifications and standards NYC Department of Environmental Protection (NYCDEP), NYC Department of Transportation (NYCDOT), and NYSDOT). 7. Familiarity with American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM), American Water Works Association (AWWA), and American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) standards and understanding of the NYC street infrastructure system. 8. Proficiency in Primavera P6 scheduling and Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP) credential (preferred) 9. Valid driver's license (Required) 10. Personal vehicle (Optional)
