Major Responsibilities
- Under the direction of the Deputy Commissioner for Capital Projects, with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, oversee the design and construction of Parks’ landscape architecture portfolio of projects including approximately 350 projects valued at $1.3 Billion.
- Manage technical and professional staff of approximately 250 people responsible for planning, developing, and managing the production of capital improvements in Parks citywide. Working with the Chief of Landscape Architecture, ensure high quality design solutions and constructability reviews for world-class projects that are easily maintained.
- Coordinate with the internal stakeholders and other Agencies to establish priorities and set program goals. Ensure staffing assignments are sufficient so that projects remain on schedule and within budget.
- Coordinate with other Parks divisions and external oversight agencies and agency partners including the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, NYC Department of Environmental Protection, NYC Economic Development Corporation and NYC and NYS Departments of Transportation to prioritize the implementation of the landscape architecture project portfolio.
- Establish and maintain a close working relationship with the Assistant Commissioner for Architecture and Engineering to accomplish agency Capital goals and ensure well-coordinated designs.
- Work with division leadership to resolve high-level issues in design, procurement and construction in order to meet time and budget restrictions.
- Work with the Chiefs of Strategic Initiatives, Landscape Architecture and Construction to standardize agency protocols and goals. Assist with formulating training strategies for career development and staff retention.
- Provide effective and inspiring leadership and serve as a valuable contributing member of the Parks top leadership team.
- Serve as a liaison in various settings between the Agency and external stakeholders, including other City and State agencies, elected officials, and the public, effectively communicating the Agency's mission, objectives, and initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualification Requirements
A valid New York State Registration as a Landscape architect is required. In addition, candidates must have six (6) years of full-time paid experience in landscape architectural work, at least two (2) years of which shall have been as an administrative landscape architect.


Preferred Skills

1. At least ten years in a supervisory capacity overseeing multiple Landscape Architecture projects. 2. Experience with the operation, design and construction of the city’s infrastructure system. 3. Experience working in NYC government and knowledge required to lead government employees. 4. Strong leadership skills, with the capacity to create a solid team environment. 5. Excellent verbal and written communication, interpersonal, customer service, organizational and presentation skills. 6. Ability to multi-task in a fast paced environment, prioritize among competing needs and respond quickly to requests for information. 7. Excellent computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. 8. Driver license valid in the State of New York.
