In order to be considered for this position candidate must be serving permanently in the title of Assistant Electrical Engineer, or must have taken, passed, and be reachable on the open competitive list, Exam # 3108 or, be eligible under the 55a program.
Traffic Operations’ Systems Engineering/Traffic Management Unit is seeking to hire an Assistant Electrical Engineer. Under general supervision, perform responsible supervisory work, or difficult and responsible work in electrical engineering for the NYCDOT Traffic Management Center and Signals Unit. Responsible for a major part of maintaining the Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), Traffic Management Programs, Vehicular Traffic Signal Control System, and adaptive control applications. The successful candidate will manage wireless communication equipment citywide including over 14,000 locations using Digi Remote Manager, Service Now, and CHAP; configure and troubleshoot electronic devices. Ensure compliance or configuration of wireless equipment in person and remotely using SSH and DRM and perform configuration and testing based on established specifications and standards. Monitor and ensure the proper operation of communication equipment and create work orders to vendors and NYCDOT shops for implementation. The successful candidate will integrate and configure communication for the new traffic signal installations and microwave vehicle detectors into Trans Suite TCS. Operate and ensure equipment compliance for the Adaptive Control Decision Support System with the field ITS devices. Configure and maintain Genetec CCTV systems and ensure wireless connectivity to Axis equipment. Supervise the AM weekend shift working at the TMC, coordinate incident management activities, and exchange information with the NYC Office of Emergency Management (OEM), NYCDOT Office of Emergency Response (OER), NYPD, and NYSDOT. Manage the portal of the public-facing CCTV camera feed of NYCDOT. Represent NYCDOT in communications with vendors relating to the wireless communication equipment.
Preference will be given to candidate who possess a motor vehicle driver’s license valid in the state of New York. If required, this license must be maintained for duration of appointment.

This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed to between the City and DC37.

1. A baccalaureate degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in electrical engineering work; or
2. A baccalaureate degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college and a master’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university.
A master’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university can only be used to substitute for one year of full-time satisfactory work experience in electrical engineering. A degree in any other engineering area, or in any engineering technology area, is not acceptable.
Strong computer skills in the use of software programs including MS Excel, Word, Outlook, and Access. Preferred knowledge of DRM (DIGI remote manager software) SNOW (Service-now software) Trans Suite TCS (Traffic Control System management software) and ACDSS (Adaptive Control decision support system). Familiar with Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS). Knowledge of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) and traffic management systems technology and applications. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports related to the work. Excellent communication skills. Preference will be given to candidate who possess a motor vehicle driver's license valid in the state of New York. If required, this license must be maintained for duration of employment.
