The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Facilities Management Division is looking for an Assistant Architect whose specific duties will include, but are not limited to:
1. Determine and prioritize work assignments to achieve annual project completion goals.
2. Manage project schedules, priorities and emergencies.
3. Ensure that Department of Buildings (DOB) and other required regulatory approvals are in place as per project schedule.
4. Work and communicate with various agency stakeholders.
5. Support and coordinate work with other Capital design and construction units, such as landscape architecture, engineering and construction management.
6. Prepares, drawing related to the architectural plan for major construction projects, remodeling or repair of public works and structures or installations.
7. Prepare specifications, cost estimates and quantity take-offs.
8. Evaluate bids, contractors and consultants' performance to recommend award of contacts for architectural projects.

Work Location: 1 Police Plaza
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 0900x1700 hrs


Minimum Qualifications

1. A Bachelor or a Master of Architecture degree that is the first professional degree in architecture from an accredited college; or
2. A Bachelor of Science degree in architecture that is the first four years of a five-year first professional degree program in architecture from an accredited college and one year of full-time satisfactory experience in architectural work; or
3. A valid New York State Registration as an Architect.

The following are examples of four-year degrees that are NOT acceptable to meet the education requirement: Bachelor of Science in Architectural Technology; Bachelor of Professional Studies in Architecture; Bachelor of Science in Fine Arts issued by the Architectural Department of a college; Bachelor of Science in Art and Design issued by the Architectural Department of a college.

Note:
A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York may be required for certain assignments. If required, this license must be maintained for the duration of the assignment.


Preferred Skills

1. Knowledge of the following specialized disciplines: sustainable/green design, historic preservation, facade restoration, and ADA/Universal design concepts. 2. Familiarity with New York City Government. 3. LEED accreditation. 4. Excellent communication skills, including public speaking. 5. Strong time management and leadership ability. 6. Excellent management skills, including the ability to listen to, and motivate staff. 7. Fluency in industry standard software, including AUTOCAD and Microsoft Office. 8. A driver License valid in New York State.
