Job Description

The mission of the Recreation Division is to enable all New Yorkers to lead physically active and intellectually stimulating lives through sports, fitness, outdoor adventure, technology, education and the arts. The Aquatics Division offers a variety of swim programs, ranging from learn to swim lessons to recreational swimming to training for swim team competitions.
Major Responsibilities
- Working with the Citywide Aquatic Office, under supervision of the Assistant Commissioner for Public Program’s Office, develop, plan and implement aquatic recreation programs in an assigned borough, with an emphasis on communication with Central Recreation.
- Lead customer service and related training for Aquatic staff in a borough. Utilize metrics, track data, provide reports as requested.
- Perform site visits and program quality reviews for Aquatic Programs happening in non-Parks pools.
- Determine recreational needs of target groups and communities; develop and implement programming to address those needs.
- Develop key partnerships to enhance programming including supplemental workshops.
- Elicit community participation in activities to drive recreation center membership and program attendance.
- Organize and promote special events with Borough Recreation and the Citywide Aquatic Office.
- Work with Central Recreation to track data from Aquatics programs in a borough.
- Evaluate Aquatic staff in coordination with the Citywide Aquatic Office.
- Investigate and respond to complaints from the public and personnel.
- Attend community meetings and other Agency meetings.
- Use applications/software such as Xplor Recreation, AMPS and Excel. Assist in maintaining records, files, and online resources.
- Assist in staff development and training opportunities including creation, implementation and integration with various divisions within Public Programs.
- Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Assistant Commissioner.

RECREATION SUPERVISOR - 60440
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and two years of satisfactory, full-time experience in recreation leadership; or
2. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above.
Preference will be given to applicants who are current permanent Recreation Supervisors or employees who passed the Recreation Supervisor Civil Service Examination (Exam No. 5555 or Exam No. 5148). 1. Knowledge and application of teaching swimming and water safety skills. 2. Excellent management, administrative and communication skills. 3. Experience in planning, scheduling, supervising and implementing recreation programs. 4. Strong writing skills and computer knowledge. 5. Available to work evenings and weekends as needed. 6. Bilingual a plus. 7. Valid New York State driver license.
