The Office of Technology and Innovation (OTI) oversees all Citywide technology, privacy, cybersecurity, infrastructure, and telecommunications to ensure the security of, and enhance, City operations and service delivery to New York City's residents, businesses, employees, and visitors. As the City's technology and innovation leader, OTI is responsible for operating, maintaining and securing IT infrastructure and systems that touch every aspect of City life from public safety to human services, from education to economic development crossing the full spectrum of governmental operations.
The successful candidate will serve as an Apple Support Mobile Device Management (MDM) Administrator reporting to the Infrastructure Management division. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Handle workstation and server hardening;
- Manage patching policies and compliance via Mobile Device Management system;
- Assist with vulnerability management including research, patching, and remediation;
- Assist with the integration and support of macOS environments and workflows (i.e., Video & Graphics) with City IT infrastructure including Active Directory, LDAP, BlueCoat, etc;
- Perform various Systems Administration duties relating to our macOS environment;
- Design, build, test, and manage complex hardware and/or software systems over their life cycles;
- Create and maintain infrastructure standards, procedures, architecture, and troubleshooting documentation for the managed environments; and;
- Perform advanced troubleshooting;
- Provide desktop, server, and Storage support for macOS users using macOS systems;
- Assist with the implementation, administration, support, and maintenance of macOS-based workflows and environments (including scheduled and emergency off-hours support);
- Assist in the development, maintenance, and implementation of policies, procedures, and documentation; assist in the creation of technical related documentation;
- Perform special projects and other related duties as required.
1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and
(a) six months of full-time mainframe, mini-computer or LAN/WAN computer operations experience or service desk/desk top support experience acquired in the past one year and three months; or
(b) graduation from an approved technical school (approximately 675 hours) with a specialization in mainframe/mini-computer operations and/or technical support acquired in the past five years and three months; or (c) currently valid A+ or Network+ certification; or
2. An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college including or supplemented by 12 semester credits in computer technology; or
3. Education and/or experience that is equivalent to “1” or “2” above. Undergraduate credit may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 semester credits, from an accredited college, including or supplemented by six credits in computer technology for three months of experience. However, all candidates must have a high school diploma or its educational equivalent.
Experience which primarily involves performing computer data entry and/or using word processing, spread sheet and/or database applications as an end user is not acceptable towards meeting the education and experience requirements for this examination.
The preferred candidate should possess the following: - 5 years of experience with IT Support - Experience with Mac software, hardware, and system administration - Experience with macOS installation, troubleshooting, and recovery - Experience with scripting languages such as Bash, Python, Ruby, and AppleScript - Proficient in macOS Mobile Device Management provisioning tools like Jamf Pro, Workspace One, and Apple Business Manager - Experience creating Mobile Device Management deployment configurations to facilitate touchless deployments - Experience with Mobile Device Management patch management and security compliance - IT security concepts, vulnerability assessment, and remediation - Domain Name management technologies (AD/DNS) Preferences - Strong knowledge and experience with vulnerability management, Jamf Pro, Workspace One, and macOS administration.
