PROGRAM AND JOB DESCRIPTION:
The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene (DOHMH) is one of the largest and most esteemed public health agencies in the world. The Institutional Review Board (IRB) is situated within the Office of General Counsel (OGC) at the DOHMH. The IRB reviews and oversees human subjects research studies conducted by/or on behalf of the agency and its many public health programs that serve more than 9 million New Yorkers.
Under the supervision of IRB leadership, the DOHMH IRB is seeking an IRB Analyst to process submissions within target turnaround goals, generate reports, and assist with other IRB related tasks.
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
The IRB Analyst will follow established procedures and practices to ensure research involving human subjects.
Comply with federal, state, local, and agency guidelines.
Adhere to confidentiality and security policies and procedures.
The IRB Analyst will also be responsible for providing guidance to research investigators and programs on the preparation of research protocols.
Process submissions sent to the IRB.
Maintain organized regulatory IRB files.
Monitor and tracks protocol regularly to ensure protocols are conducted within guidelines of IRB and Common Rule 45 CFR 46.
Ensure consistency of approved protocols with DOHMH policies, procedures, and goals.
Respectfully interact regularly with internal stakeholders/clients and external entities.
Participates in IRB related meetings with investigators and carry out assigned action items from such meetings.
Prepare materials for primary reviewers.
Assist with administrative IRB-related tasks (i.e., sending/responding to correspondence, monitoring inbox, answering phones, filing).
Complete ad-hoc projects as assigned by supervisor.
In the event of a health or emergency response, may be activated to function in a different role and/or capacity.
**Minimum Qualification Requirements: A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of satisfactory, fulltime experience related to the projects and policies to be studied in the particular position. Minimum of two years of experience as an IRB Specialist, IRB Analyst or a Certified IRB Professional (CIP). Familiarity with IRB procedures, the Common Rule 45 CFR 46 and understanding of research ethics. Excellent communication (verbal & written) and interpersonal skills. Strong research, project management, problem-solving and decision-making skills. Strong work ethic, organizational skills and attention to detail. Strong analytical skills and ability to manage and report complex information. Preferred experience working with the public health sector and coordinating projects involving multiple stakeholders. Ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment with hard deadlines. Interest in public health. Fluency in Office 365, Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
