PROGRAM AND JOB DESCRIPTION:
The World Trade Center Health Registry (WTCHR) was developed as a public health response to document and evaluate the physical and mental health impact of the September 11 th 2001disaster on a large, diverse population. The WTCHR provides a means for long-term follow-up of the 71,000 exposed people who have volunteered to participate in the Registry.
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
- Support the Registry's Translational Epidemiology team responsible for the translation of Registry findings into clinical and population-level interventions: o Coordinate with other Registry units to enable successful design and implementation of nested studies. o Assist in study implementation process, including drafting protocols and concept notes, liaising with IRB and coordinator for confidentiality and data governance to undertake study review, modifications, IRB tracking, and closure processes. o Manage external research portfolio, including guiding the external research application process, coordinating regular meetings of the Registry's External Review Committee (ERC), and liaising with Registry staff and external researchers to successfully implement approved projects.
- Support development of a comprehensive Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) framework o Collaboratively design framework, develop indicators, and track progress to improve the impact of our research and treatment referral programs. o Maintain IRB tracking system for all Registry research and facilitate process internally for Principal Investigators. o Maintain publication and grant reporting systems on behalf of the research unit.
- Participate in Registry's research by joining manuscript teams o Conduct literature reviews, qualitative data analysis, and epidemiological analyses, with potential to grow into independent researcher.
- Perform other tasks based on program needs o Assist in preparing grant-required reporting, tracking of deliverables, and development of new request for proposals (RFPs) across the research unit. o Contribute to DOHMH efforts to promote health equity and racial justice.

1. For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have:
1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
2. A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in "2" above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in "1" and "2" above.
NOTE:
Probationary Period
Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period of one year.
- Master's degree in epidemiology, public health, biostatistics, or a related discipline. - Strong interest in clinical and translational epidemiology. - Highly organized with the ability to work well in teams and independently on multiple simultaneous projects. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills. - Proficient knowledge of SAS (or STATA, R) and spreadsheet packages, including Microsoft Excel. - Experience supporting cutting-edge epidemiological research, coordinating research collaborations, and developing protocols to support program evaluations. - Aptitude for critical thinking as applied to research. - Bi-lingual candidates in Spanish, Mandarin or Cantonese are a plus.
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
