Job Description
Under direction of the Deputy Director, Alternative Energy, the Engineer will work on alternative energy and electrical/mechanical code related issues, review requests for material approval, and work on other various technical subject matters.
- Researching, evaluating, and documenting use of materials in accordance with the NYC Construction Codes.
- Managing technical review and approval of applications and other documents submitted to the department in connection with alternative energy projects.
- Providing guidance to applicants in connection with such projects.
- Supporting technical research for advancing energy legislation and policy within the city.
- Receiving and responding to comments, questions and complaints for this program.
- Coordinating with the Mayor's Office of Climate and Environmental Justice, Fire Department, Department of Small Business Services, Department of Housing Preservation and Development, and other relevant agencies to ensure that policies are in place to encourage the installation and maintenance of alternative energy projects
- Seeking cooperation and assistance from the City University of New York with respect to such energy policies.
- Assisting the Director and Deputy Director in making recommendations to the Commissioner and the heads of other agencies with respect to streamlining the process for obtaining the necessary approvals to install and maintain alternative energy projects.
- Assisting the Director in functions related to the Office of Alternative Energy and Office of Technical Certification and Research.
REMOTE WORK
This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program.
CIVIL SERVICE STATUS
Only permanent Electrical Engineer, applicants who are reachable on the Electrical Engineer open competitive list, and applicants as indicated below will be considered.
Candidates who are permanent in comparable civil service titles may be considered for title change under rule 6.1.9 of the Personnel Rules and Regulations of the City of New York.
ELECTRICAL ENGINEER - 20315
(1) Four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in electrical engineering work; and
(2) A valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License. Current New York State registration as a Professional Engineer must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
A masters degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) may be substituted for one year of the electrical engineering experience required in “1" above.
- Knowledge of the NYC Construction Code and Zoning Resolution and their legal and practical application. - Advanced organizational skills. - Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, required to independently write acceptable technical letters, email messages, meeting summaries, etc. and the ability to explain technical requirements in lay terms. - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Access, Outlook) Bluebeam - Customer service experience. - Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications. - Interpersonal skills and the ability to work with people of diverse personal, educational and cultural backgrounds in a professional manner.
