The Public Information Unit in NYCHA’s Law Department works closely with internal business partners to respond to requests for documents and information from members of the public, the media, litigants, and federal, state, and local agencies. Collaborative research, records review, records retention and access policy and related process development, and factual investigation form the core of the unit’s work. Reporting to the Chief of Public Information and Chief Records Officer, responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Provide legal review and advice for the Public Information team as they prepare to produce records in response Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests, subpoenas, investigations, and
other inquiries.
- Perform sophisticated legal research and analysis in the areas of document disclosure, privilege, and records management.
- Provide legal advice to business units in their collections of data in response to requests, including performing review for privilege, confidentiality, and other legal issues.
- Review and prepare briefing materials related to sensitive document productions for internal and external stakeholders including senior executives and City partners.
- Assist business units in the preparation of responses to government investigations, inquiries, and subpoenas.
- Work closely with support staff to respond to FOIL requests, subpoenas, and other inquiries.
- Provide legal counsel on matters of records management and document retention requirements.
- Work closely with the FOIL and Records Access teams to ensure any proposed changes to internal records policies and processes remain fully compliant with applicable law.
Note: The selected candidate will be required to maintain confidentiality regarding all NYCHA proceedings.

Graduation from an accredited United States law school as defined in the Rules of the New York Court of Appeals (Sections 520.3 or 520.5) or admission to the New York State Bar.
