The Assistant to Police Commissioner, M-V, designated Advisor to the Police Commissioner, serves as confidential advisor to the Police Commissioner, counseling her on a myriad of highly confidential and sensitive administrative issues and agency policies which impact all aspects of Police Department operations. The Advisor to the Police Commissioner manages, administers, directs, and oversees the activities of a professional and administrative staff of both uniform and civilian personnel assigned to the Office of the Police Commissioner. This position oversees research and analysis of complex administrative procedures and policies; recommends methods to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively across command structure to improve work performance; and provides significant input into the development, formulation and implementation of new programs, policies, and procedures to improve the administrative operations of the Department. The Advisor to the Police Commissioner attends meetings and conferences with the Police Commissioner and other city, state, and federal government agencies, and analyzes information collected from these meetings regarding critical issues affecting the Department, offering recommendations to address and resolve problems, or modify procedures to improve the administrative operations of the Department; and oversees the preparation of detailed analytical reports and communications for the review of the Police Commissioner and other executive level staff

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

A Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college in criminal justice or a closely related field and 15 years of recent full-time responsible, relevant, satisfactory experience in a managerial or executive capacity performing work in program development, public policy and administration, research coordination and implementation of departmental policies and procedures in a law enforcement environment.


Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
