The Team You’ll Work With
The Office of the Chief of Staff to the Mayor consists of a team dedicated to advancing and executing the Administration’s agenda. The Office manages executive operations pertaining to the Mayor’s policies, agenda, schedule, events, and day-to-day needs. The team led by the Mayor’s Chief of Staff coordinates the operations of the Office of International Affairs, the Office of Operations, the Office of Special Projects and Community Events, the Office of Citywide Event Coordination and Management, Gracie Mansion, and the Office of Correspondence, the Office of Engagement, the Office of Emerging Markets, the Office of Sports, Wellness, and Recreation, and the Office of Asylum Seeker Operations.
The Problems You’ll Solve
The Advance Associate will support the Director and Deputy Director of Advance team at large by performing the following functions:
- Overseeing the planning and execution of Mayoral events.
- The office works directly with a multitude of City Hall departments and Citywide Agencies to ensure all logistical aspects of events are arranged in advance;
- office is also responsible for the management of staff at events to ensure each event runs smoothly. organizations as needed.
- General Support as needed, prepare briefing memoranda, provide background research and information, coordinate meeting planning and assistance, and respond to correspondence from constituents or elected officials.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Planning and managing the logistical production of official events, such as press conferences, town-hall style meetings, rallies, and a variety of photo opportunities
- Assisting with the on-site event set-up
- Briefing the media and relevant guests in attendance at events with details regarding the background of the event and run of show
- Working closely with the communications, press, community affairs, and intergovernmental affairs staff at events to ensure they understand their role in advancing the Mayor’s agenda
- Communicating to the appropriate teams the coverage detail of Mayor’s events

- You have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
- You have the ability to prioritize workload and function effectively within and outside the office.
- You are proficient in Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
Preferred:
- Knowledge of and networks in the philanthropic and nonprofit sector
- City Government experience.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative and supportive team environment.
- Research and/or analytical experience.
- Bachelor’s degree.

A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and three years satisfactory full-time experience related to the projects and policies to be studied in the particular position.
