The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Confidential Funds Unit ("CFU") of the Detective Bureau oversees all fiscal funds
utilized by fifteen (15) enforcement commands. The Confidential Funds Unit maintains confidential and sensitive financial transactions by members of the DB to be used for
investivative cases. The "CFU" allocates and distributes funds to commands based upon spending trends and necessity to enhance investigative cases.

Job Description: (Describe the job duties of the position)
- Review expense reports submitted by commands within the Detective Bureau
- Prepare weekly financial reports
- Produce error free financial statements
- Prepare monthly analysis to compare fiscal year spending trends
- Examine bank statements and reconcile them with general ledger entries

- Plan. assign. supervise, review and coordinate the work of subordinate
accounting and clerical staff
- Devise methods and procedures for staff
- Assist in development of procedures. forms. techniques and systems of the
maintenance of fiscal controls and statistical records
- Supervise and assist in operational auditing
- May serve as a consultant on important and unusual problems regarding fiscal procedures
- Examine, analyze, reconcile, adjust, review, and interpret expense reports
- Prepare weekly financial reports for the Detective Bureau to reflect
available funds onsite for distribution. and verify funds distributed
- Produce and present error free accounting reports. Prepare financial statements and produce estimated budgets according to schedule
- Support month end and fiscal year end closing process. Examine bank
statements and reconcile them with general ledger entries.
- Prepare monthly analysis to compare the fiscal spending for the prior year
and present year.
- Secure confidential/sensitive financial information by completing and
maintaining database backups and computer application


Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or supplemented by 24 credits in accounting, including one course each in advanced accounting, auditing, and cost accounting and four years of satisfactory full-time professional accounting or auditing experience, at least 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, or executive capacity or supervising a staff performing accounting or auditing work; or

2. A valid New York State Certified Public Accountant license and at least 18 months of satisfactory full-time professional accounting or auditing experience in an administrative, managerial or executive capacity or supervising a staff performing accounting or auditing work.


Preferred Skills

Proficient in : QuickBooks, Access, Excel Must possess strong email/ communication skills, with attentiveness to detail. Advanced knowledge of general accounting practices needed.
Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
