Job Description

THE SELECTED CANDIDATE WILL BE OFFERED A SALARY OF $26.73 PER HOUR.

The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community.

ACS’ Division of Financial Services (DFS) is responsible for supporting, planning, implementing, and monitoring the fiscal functions of the agency in accordance with City, State and Federal guidelines. Within DFS, the Executive Unit is responsible for oversight of eight finance departments including Budget, Payments, Audit, Policy, Central Eligibility Office, Systems Support Office, and Claiming and Revenue as well as other operations matters related to administration and personnel. DFS is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Administration & Operations Graduate Intern to join our team.

As an Administration & Operations Graduate Intern, you will support our executive team in day-to-day operations and contribute to long-term projects aimed at improving employee engagement and organizational effectiveness. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to various aspects of the operations of a 300+ workforce. Additionally, as a member of the 2026, ACS Summer Internship Program cohort, you will participate in an enrichment program designed to fully engage students into the ACS and NYC government experience. Internship programming includes professional development workshops, lunch and learns, speaker events, NYC government tours, and networking opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:

- Assist with documenting policies and processes, and reviewing for usability and consistency in efforts to consolidate into a division-wide manual

- Assist with developing templates and processes to ensure smooth communication across departments

- Collaborate with leadership to ensure completion of requests related to agency/divisional goals

- Support the Chief of Staff and Executive Director of Operations with personnel and administrative projects, and assist with special projects

- Help organize and coordinate events and workshops

Learning Outcomes:

- Gain comprehensive knowledge of HR operations in a government setting

- Develop skills in managing employee relations and understanding HR compliance

- Enhance abilities in coordinating and executing organizational tasks and events

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university or law school.


Preferred Skills

- Currently pursuing a graduate degree in Public Policy, Social Work, or a related field - Keen attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving - Strong analytical, communications, and writing skills - Highly organized and able to track the status and deadlines of projects - Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) - Ability to handle confidential information with discretion - There is a possibility of extending this summer internship to a full year internship. As such, students from local colleges are preferred.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
