The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community.
ACS’ Division of Financial Services (DFS) is responsible for supporting, planning, implementing, and monitoring the fiscal functions of the agency in accordance with City, State and Federal guidelines. Within DFS, the Audit Department oversees and monitors the financial health of contracted provider agencies and identify areas of financial risk. DFS is looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Accounting Undergraduate Intern to join our team.
As an Accounting Undergraduate Intern, you will support the Audit & Risk Management Unit in day-to-day tasks, monitor the progress of audit unit activities, and complete program audits that includes closeouts, appeals, repayments. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to various aspects in program auditing, government systems, and financial analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in billing and collection of amounts due to ACS
- Assist in coordinating the processing of amounts due from ACS
- Support preparation of monthly status reports, and monitoring and updating of progress trackers
- Generate reports in financial information systems (Passport, Financial Management System (FMS) and Payment Management Reporting System (PMRS)), as needed
- Conduct data analyses upon request via excel
Learning Outcomes:
- Gain a hands-on understanding of audit closeouts in a government setting
- Acquire and develop abilities to analyze financial data to assist with decision-making
- Learn how to use government financial systems, such as Passport, FMS, and PMRS

As of June of the Program year the prospective interne must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year.
- Currently pursuing a degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field - Basic analytical skills to assist in financial analysis - Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) - Organizational skills and attention to detail and accuracy - Interpersonal skills with a proactive approach to problem solving - There is a possibility of extending this summer internship to a full year internship. As such, students from local colleges are preferred.
