Job Description

The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The New York City Police Department strives to foster a safe and fair city through the strategic deployment of resources, focusing on both crime prevention and addressing quality-of-life concerns while building lasting community relationships.

The Fiscal Control Section oversees the processing of payments and revenue receipts, manages banking operations for the Department and reviews special expenses for various commands.

The selected candidate will be assigned (but not limited to) the following duties:

- Vendor invoicing and Payments - Analyzing invoices and supporting documentation to process payments to vendors, tracking payments, and following up on outstanding issues;
- Revenue Collection - Monitoring and managing revenue collection processes to ensure proper recording and accountability; and
- Special Projects - Assisting the team on any ad hoc projects.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in accounting, including one course each in advanced accounting and auditing; or
2. A valid New York State Certified Public Accountant license.
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, at least one year of experience as an Accountant - Assignment Level I or at least two years of satisfactory full-time professional accounting or auditing experience.


Preferred Skills

The selected candidate must have: - The ability to review, compare, and interpret figures and data - Problem solving and communication skills and - Proficiency in FMS, PASSPort, Microsoft Excel, Word, and Quick Books is preferred.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
