The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Internal Affairs Bureau is seeking Accountants who will be responsible for the following:

* Coordination and administration of the Bureau's investigative and non-investigative funds and expenditures
* Prepare monthly Fiscal Reports for review and approval by Bureau Chief
* Summarize financial status by collecting information and preparing balance sheets, and other reports.
* Secure and maintain sensitive and confidential financial information for the Internal Affairs Bureau
* Prepare payments by requesting disbursements and verifying documentation.
* Ensure that the Department's legal financial requirements are adhered to and advise Bureau Chief on relevant actions.
* Liaison with DCMB, Audits and Accounts Division
* Prepare and make request to DCMB on behalf of the bureau for additional funding or reallocation of funding.


Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in accounting, including one course each in advanced accounting and auditing; or
2. A valid New York State Certified Public Accountant license.
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, at least one year of experience as an Accountant - Assignment Level I or at least two years of satisfactory full-time professional accounting or auditing experience.


Preferred Skills

* Degree and license in accounting with a financial auditing background * Strong ability in managing and processing data. * Strong organizational skills * Efficient in communicating both orally and in writing with all levels of staff. * Proficiency in the use of accounting software (QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamic etc.) as well as advanced skills in Excel, Word, Publisher. * Ability to analyze accounting options and perform mathematical computation. * Self-motivated with strong ability to prioritize tasks and perform multiple duties simultaneously.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
