The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.
The Bureau of Organizational Development & Human Resources (OD&HR) is the Agency’s strategic people partner on organizational culture and human capital matters for approximately 6,000 employees. We collaborate with employees, management, employee representatives, employee affinity groups, and other City agencies to develop sustainable policies, procedures, and practices. OD&HR ensures our operation is staffed with the best-qualified, developed, and engaged employees.
Under the supervision of the Senior Advisor, with great latitude for independent initiative and judgment, the selected candidate will assist with Digital Transformation related tasks including but not limited to:
- Assisting teams with current use case to leverage the authorized GenAI tool to maximize productivity, identifying 2-3 additional use cases
- Gathering and documenting business requirements, analyze and formulate recommendations for business process improvements, execute business process redesign to align with DEP’s mission outcomes
- Assisting in analyzing existing processes, building frameworks for data recording, and analytics (dashboard)
- Analyzing existing data, synthesizing it into actionable outcomes
- Coordinate and work with interns, analysts at DEP’s Office of Performance and Project Management on all the above, for ODHR
In addition, the summer intern will develop a final presentation to display assignments they have been involved with while working as an intern at the DEP Interns Closing Ceremony.

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university or law school.
- Student must currently be enrolled at a college/university at the Graduate level - Student must have at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) Selection Criteria - Comfort with tools like GenAI, low code/no code products - Proficiency in data tools and Microsoft Office applications such as Copilot, PowerBi, Power Automate, SharePoint will be an advantage - Strong organizational skills with attention to detail. - Interest in performance optimization, productivity gains by leveraging technology Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
