The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and storm water, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.

The Bureau of Engineering Design &14 Construction (BEDC) currently has a portfolio of capital projects valued at $35B, and another $13.6B projected over the next 10-year commitment plan. The projects BEDC implements allows DEP as a whole to continue to operate and maintain an exemplary water supply system.

BEDC seeks to hire a Project Manager Intern for the Wastewater Capital Program (WWCP) directorate projects, located in Hunts Point and Wards Island WRRFs, Bronx and Manhattan NY. Under the guidance of Senior Engineers will perform elementary project management work; assist with supervision of construction work at the Hunts Point and Wards Island Wastewater Resource Recovery Facilities located the Bronx and Randalls Island, monitoring consultant and contractor performance, coordinating and implementing the design and construction of capital projects; assist with the evaluation of technical issues, design alternatives, and/or proposals; and prepare technical reports and scopes of work for engineering projects.

In addition, the summer intern will develop a final presentation to display assignments they have been involved with while working as an intern at the DEP Interns Closing Ceremony.

Minimum Qualifications

As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year.


Preferred Skills

- Student must currently be enrolled at a college/university at the undergraduate level majoring in construction management, civil, structural, mechanical, electrical or other engineering majors - Student must have at least a 2.5GPA (on a 4.0 scale) - Student must have at least a junior class standing - Familiarity and/or experience with reading / reviewing construction drawings and specifications, CSI divisions, concept of quantity takeoffs, prevailing wage & labor benefits, standard construction materials & methods - Familiarity and/or experience with computers/software such as AutoCAD and/or Civil3D, and Microsoft Office suite is preferred. Selection Criteria: - Technical aptitude quantitative and analytical skills attention to detail effective interpersonal skills. - Self-motivation and ability to work well with minimal supervision.
