Job Description
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.
The Bureau of Water and Sewer Operations (BWSO) is responsible for the operation, maintenance and protection of the City's drinking water and wastewater collection (sewer) systems, the protection of adjacent waterways, and the development and protection of the Department's Capital Water and Sewer Design Program. The selected Summer Intern will be working in the Division of Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS). The EHS Division fosters the development, maintenance, and improvement of effective and comprehensive environmental, health and safety initiatives within the Bureau and Agency as a whole. The Division strives to ensure long term environmental health compliance and to fully integrate the understanding of effective EHS policies and practices at all levels of the Bureau's organization. Under general supervision, the Intern will be responsible for collecting and entering data into EHS management system programs, assisting in the preparations of EHS metrics, assisting with employee training and safety programs.

As of June of the Program year the prospective interne must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year.
- Student must be currently enrolled at a college/university at the undergraduate level majoring in physical and/or biological sciences (i.e. biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science, public health, industrial hygiene, occupational health & safety) or environmental engineering. - Student must have at least a junior class standing. - Student must have at least a 2.5 GPA (on a 4.0 scale). - Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM Software Selection Criteria: - Strong writing skills effective interpersonal skills familiarity and/or experience with computers/software leadership skills self-motivation and ability to work well with minimal supervision.
