The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and storm water, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.
The Bureau of Engineering Design & Construction (BEDC) currently has a portfolio of capital projects valued at $23.8B, and another $10.5B projected over the next 10-year commitment plan. The projects BEDC implements allows DEP as a whole to continue to operate and maintain an exemplary water supply system.
BEDC seeks to hire a BIM/CADD Intern for the In-house Design (IHD) directorate located in Queens, NY. Under supervision the selected candidate will perform elementary design work; assist with planning, coordinating, and implementing the design and construction of capital projects; assist with the evaluation of technical issues, design alternatives, and/or proposals; and prepare technical reports and scopes of work for engineering projects. The selected candidate will be responsible for constructing drawings, building information models, and working on markups of existing drawings/models using computer BIM and CAD software under the direct supervision of BIM/CAD Specialists or Engineers and ensure that the drawings and building information models are in line with DEP CAD and BIM standards. In addition, the summer intern will develop a final presentation to display assignments they have been involved with while working as an intern for the BIM/CAD Section at the DEP Interns Fair.
As of June of the Program year the prospective interne must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year.
- Student must currently be enrolled at a college/university at the undergraduate level majoring in Architecture, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Mechanical Engineering - Student must have at least a 2.5GPA (on a 4.0 scale) - Student must have at least a junior class standing - Preferred coursework in Building Information Modeling, Computer Aided Design. - Familiarity and/or experience with computers/software such as Auto CAD, and/or Revit 3D and Microsoft Office suite is preferred. Selection Criteria: - Strong writing skills effective interpersonal skills. - Leadership skills self-motivation and ability to work well with minimal supervision.
